TRIPOLI, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Eight people were killed and 20 others injured on Sunday in a traffic accident in the eastern Libyan area of Al-Loud, according to Libya's Ministry of Health.
Forty passengers were on board the bus involved in the accident on a highway, according to a statement by the ministry on its official Facebook page.
"The Minister of Health confirmed his close follow-up of the condition of the injured, who were transferred to hospitals to receive the necessary medical care, and instructed the ministry's central operations chamber to coordinate with medical agencies to provide all the required support for them," the statement said.
"The minister also called on everyone to adhere to traffic rules and guidelines to preserve people's lives and safety," the statement added.
According to official statistics, Libya recorded one of the world's highest road traffic mortalities in 2024, with 34 fatalities per 100,000 people. Enditem
