BEIJING, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Sri Lanka's President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will pay a state visit to China from Tuesday to Friday.
Dissanayake, 56, leader of the National People's Power (NPP), entered the political stage in the late 1980s by joining the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP). He has been a member of parliament since 2000. As the JVP head, he played a leading role in the establishment of the NPP in 2018.
In September 2024, he won the presidential election as the NPP candidate, becoming the 9th president of Sri Lanka.
Under his leadership, the NPP secured a two-thirds majority in the parliamentary election in November 2024 to form a new cabinet.
Dissanayake holds a friendly stance towards China and has visited China multiple times. He is married and has one son. Enditem
