ISLAMABAD, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's security forces eliminated eight terrorists in two separate operations in the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday.

The intelligence-based operations were conducted on Sunday night in the districts of Tank and Khyber on the reported presence of terrorists, said the ISPR, the media wing of the Pakistan Army.

In the first operation, security forces launched an intelligence-based strike on the reported presence of terrorists in the Tank district.

"During the operation, our troops effectively engaged the terrorists' location, resulting in the elimination of six terrorists," the ISPR statement confirmed.

Separately, two more terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Tirah Valley area of Khyber.

Following the successful engagements, clearance operations are underway in both areas to locate and eliminate any remaining terrorist elements.

The ISPR reaffirmed the military's resolve to continue its efforts to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country.

"Pakistan's security forces remain steadfast in their mission to eliminate all threats to peace and stability," the statement concluded. Enditem
