NEW DELHI, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- India's wholesale price index (WPI) rose to 2.37 percent in December 2024, suggested data released by the Federal Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday.
"Positive rate of inflation in December 2024 is primarily due to increase in prices of food articles, manufacture of food products, other manufacturing, manufacture of textiles and non-food articles, etc," a statement of the ministry said.
WPI inflation rate was 1.89 percent in November 2024 and 2.75 percent in October.
WPI inflation, an indicator of prices in the wholesale market, rises or falls mainly due to steep increases or decreases in commodity prices globally.
WPI Food inflation decreased from 8.92 percent in November 2024 to 8.89 percent in December 2024.
The food index consisting of food articles from the primary articles group and food products from the manufactured products group decreased from 200.3 in November 2024 to 195.9 in December 2024.
The index for the manufactured products group was 143.0 in December 2024 (provisional), the same as in November 2024 (provisional).
The index for the primary articles group decreased by 2.07 percent to 193.8 (provisional) in December 2024 from 197.9 (provisional) in November 2024.
The index for fuel and power group increased by 1.90 percent to 149.9 (provisional) in December 2024 from 147.1 (provisional) in November 2024. Enditem
