KIEV, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Ukrainian military said on Tuesday that they had struck the infrastructure of the Engels-2 military airfield in southwest Russia's Saratov region for the second time in less than a week.
The attack hit the Kristal oil depot, igniting a fire on tanks with "rare" aviation fuel for Tu-160 strategic bombers, according to a statement from the Ukrainian army.
"The multi-day complex operation to reduce the capabilities of the enemy's strategic aviation has been completed," it said.
On Jan. 8, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that Ukrainian forces struck the same oil depot, which supplies fuel to the Engels-2 military airfield.
The Engels-2 military airfield is a key base for Russia's Tu-95, Tu-22, and Tu-160 strategic bombers, which are used for airstrikes on Ukraine, local media reported. Enditem
