BANGKOK, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's consumer confidence improved for a third consecutive month in December 2024, mainly supported by the government's economic measures and a recovery in the vital tourism sector, a survey showed on Tuesday.
According to the survey of 2,244 respondents conducted by the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the consumer confidence index picked up to 57.9 last month from 56.9 in November as all components of the index increased, marking the highest rate in six months.
Despite the increase in confidence, the reading remained below the normal level of 100, which indicated that consumers still lacked confidence in the economic situation, job opportunities and future income, said the university's president Thanavath Phonvichai.
Consumers were also concerned that the ongoing geopolitical conflicts might result in high global oil and energy prices. This could increase production costs and pressure the global economic recovery, as well as negatively impact Thailand's exports and economic prospects in the future, the university said in a statement.
