ISTANBUL, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police have arrested 41 suspects over their alleged ties to the Gulen movement, Turkish semi-official Anadolu Agency reported on Tuesday.

The suspects were arrested during police operations across Istanbul, Sivas, Zonguldak, Kocaeli, and Ankara, during which numerous digital materials and organizational documents were seized.

The suspects are alleged to operate at a so-called "responsible level" within the organization, who contacted each other via payphones, said the report, adding that they have been taken to the police station for further investigation.

The operations were within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, said Anadolu.

The Gulen movement, once led by Muslim preacher Fethullah Gulen, who passed away in October 2024 in the United States, has been accused by the Turkish government of masterminding a coup attempt in 2016, which resulted in the deaths of over 250 people. Enditem
