SUVA, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- More than 315,000 registered voters are expected to cast their votes in the snap election of Vanuatu on Thursday, to elect the country's next 52 Members of Parliament (MPs).

Principal Electoral Officer Guilain Malessas encouraged everyone with national ID care to go exercise their right to vote, reported the Daily Post on Wednesday.

Malessas emphasized that Thursday is declared a public holiday, which means that everyone eligible to vote should take the day off and attend their designated polling stations, where visual materials will be available to assist and guide voters.

As usual, voting will start at 7:30 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. local time.

The Vanuatu Electoral Office has confirmed that 52 seats, across 18 constituencies, will be contested by 217 candidates, seven of whom are women.

The office is doing its best to conduct the election within the short timeframe, and any issues encountered will be assessed and addressed in future elections, Malessas said. Enditem
