MANILA, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- A Philippine trial court has issued arrest warrants for 29 active and former police officers linked to the 6.7 billion pesos (roughly 114 million U.S. dollars) drug bust in 2022, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday.
In a statement released on social media, the PNP said the arrest warrants were issued against the cops for violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Among the 30 implicated personnel, 22 remain active in service, two have retired, three have opted for early retirement, one has resigned, and two have already been dismissed.
PNP chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil has "issued clear directives to ensure accountability for all involved personnel" in a campaign "to combat misconduct within its ranks," said the statement.
"There will be no mercy when it comes to wrongdoings committed by our personnel," Marbil was quoted in the PNP statement as saying.
To speed up the process, the PNP said the police force will form a task force to "ensure swift apprehension of all implicated individuals." Enditem
