WARSAW, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Poland's presidency of the Council of the European Union will aim to break the deadlock on Ukraine's European Union (EU) accession, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Wednesday.
"We will work together with Ukraine and our European partners to accelerate the accession process," Tusk said during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Warsaw.
He also pledged that Poland is ready to host a third summit on Ukraine's reconstruction and that Polish companies will actively participate in rebuilding efforts.
At the conference, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine's EU and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) membership is not just a matter of diplomacy and economy but a critical issue of security.
Ukraine's independence is "a guarantee for the independence and security of Poland and other Europeans," Zelensky said, calling this principle the foundation of Ukrainian-Polish cooperation. He also highlighted discussions with Tusk about joint investments in the energy and arms industries. Enditem
