BRUSSELS, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- The European Commission on Wednesday revealed an action plan designed to bolster cybersecurity in the healthcare sector, which has experienced a higher rate of incidents compared to other sectors.

The plan proposes that the European Union (EU) agency for cybersecurity ENISA establishes a pan-European Cybersecurity Support Centre for hospitals and healthcare providers, offering them guidance, tools, services and training.

The plan aims to enhance prevention by implementing critical cybersecurity practices and by establishing cybersecurity learning resources for healthcare professionals.

By 2026, an EU-wide early warning service will be developed to deliver near-real-time alerts on potential cyber threats and thus improve detection and identification of threats.

EU member states reported 309 significant cybersecurity incidents affecting the health sector in 2023, which was more than in any other sector. Specific actions will be rolled out progressively in 2025 and 2026, the Commission said. Enditem
