HANOI, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- Remittances to Vietnam in 2024 were estimated to reach about 16 billion U.S. dollars, Vietnam News Agency reported on Thursday, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The remittances level in 2024 was equivalent to 2023, when remittances reached a record high after a period of slow growth due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The amount of remittances transferred to the southern hub Ho Chi Minh City through credit institutions and economic organizations reached 9.6 billion dollars, an increase of 140 million dollars compared to the previous year.

This accounted for about 60 percent of the total remittances of the country, the report said. Enditem
