1 teen dead, 2 injured in car crash in Sydney

SYDNEY, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- A teenage boy has died, and two more teenagers have been hospitalized after a car crashed into a tree in southwest Sydney Thursday night, police in Australia's state of New South Wales (NSW) said Friday.

The black sedan left the road and struck a tree at about 8:30 p.m. local time on Thursday in Hoxton Park, 33 km southwest of central Sydney, the capital city of NSW, the police said in a statement.

Emergency services attended the scene where police rendered aid to the front passenger in the car, a 16-year-old boy, who died at the scene.

He has not yet been formally identified.

The driver of the car, a 19-year-old male, was treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital, as was a 16-year-old passenger who sustained minor injuries.

Police said a crime scene was established and that an investigation into the circumstances of the crash has commenced. Enditem
