MANILA, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- A pickup truck and a passenger bus have collided in Ilocos Norte province in northern Philippines, killing one and injuring 13 others, police said Friday.

Police Corporal James Villanos said the crash happened on Thursday afternoon on a highway in Pasuquin town after the pickup truck crossed a yellow line to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with an oncoming bus from the opposite lane.

"The collision resulted in significant damage to both vehicles," Villanos told Xinhua in a telephone interview.

"Tragically, the pickup driver was killed on impact, while the bus fell on its side into a shallow ravine, causing multiple injuries to the bus driver, ticket collector, and several passengers," he added.

Villanos said emergency responders transported the injured people to a local hospital for treatment. Enditem
