Namibia to host Hong Kong of China in the Davis Cup World Group 2 tennis tie

WINDHOEK, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Namibia will host Hong Kong, China in a crucial Davis Cup World Group 2 tie on February 1 and 2 in the country's capital city, Windhoek.

This marks a significant moment for Namibian tennis, bringing international-level competition to the country.

"We expect the Namibian teams to win the tie and continue to the second round in September," President of the Namibia Tennis Association, Samson Kaulinge said on Friday.

Kaulinge also noted that the team members have competed in various international tournaments in preparation for the tie.

"They are playing in various tournaments outside Namibia," he said adding that hosting the Davis Cup tie on home soil will inspire the young talent in the country.

The Davis Cup, often referred to as the "World Cup of Tennis," is the premier international team event in men's tennis. Organized by the International Tennis Federation, it is contested annually between teams from over 150 countries and regions, making it the world's largest annual team sporting competition. Enditem
