MADRID, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid has suffered an injury setback with the confirmation that French international midfielder, Eduardo Camavinga will be out of action for at least three weeks.
Camavinga suffered the injury during his side's 5-2 win at home to Celta in the Copa del Rey knockout competition, in which Madrid needed extra time to finally overcome a rival that came back from 2-0 down in the 82nd minute to force an extra half hour.
"After the tests carried out on our player, Eduardo Camavinga, by the Real Madrid medical services, has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in his femoral biceps (hamstring) in his left leg," explained the communique on Friday morning.
Although the communique doesn't say how long the midfielder will be out of action, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said in his post-game press conference on Thursday night that Camavinga would be sidelined for around three weeks.
That would see him miss league games against Las Palmas, Valladolid and Espanyol, as well as vital Champions League ties against Salzburg and Brest and the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey, and make him a doubt for the vital Madrid derby against Atletico Madrid on February 9.
It is Camavinga's second injury of the season after he missed the opening months with an ankle problem, with Real Madrid struggling for consistency during his absence.
Camavinga has become a vital player for Madrid since Toni Kroos' retirement, with only Dani Ceballos able to play the same role in front of the defense. Aurelien Tchouameni has struggled in the same position and is now playing in central defense.
Atletico Madrid also has an injury worry over Alexander Sorloth, with the Norwegian forward, who scored twice in their 4-0 cup win in Elche, also set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a muscle injury in the same game. Enditem
