SEOUL, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- The defense budget increase by the United States this year is a move to gratify its ambition to dominate the world and retain its "sole superpower" status, the official news agency of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea said on Friday.

A commentary by the Korean Central News Agency said Washington has adopted the largest-ever defense budget, namely the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025.

The article noted that the huge amount of U.S. military spending stands in stark contrast to its status as the globe's biggest debtor nation.

The U.S. military expenditure is neither for its defense nor for world peace, but is spent "on inciting and carrying out war, conflicts, confusion and slaughter in different parts of the world," said the article.

It accused the United States of sparking off a vicious cycle of tensions and an arms race by "ceaselessly deploying its ultra-modern military hardware and strategic assets in the Korean Peninsula and other parts of the Asia-Pacific as well as in Europe and the Middle East."

The U.S. military spending is aimed at "gratifying its ambition for dominating the whole world by upper hand in strength and to retain its collapsing dominant position as the 'only superpower' in the world," said the commentary. Enditem
