JAKARTA, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government was increasing methanol production to support the mandatory 50 percent biodiesel program (B50), which is set to begin next year, Bahlil Lahadalia, energy and mineral resources minister, said on Friday.
According to Bahlil, the national methanol need per year will be at 2.3 million tons, while domestic production will be around 500,000 tons.
"Indonesia will construct a methanol factory in East Java to address a deficit of 1.8 million tons soon," said Bahlil.
The government aimed to promote national energy independence by maximizing the use of crude palm oil in biodiesel production.
Additionally, the government was developing sugarcane-based ethanol plantations in Java and Papua to increase production. Enditem
