Egyptian, Qatari officials discuss Gaza ceasefire, situation in Syria

CAIRO, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani discussed on Friday the recent Gaza ceasefire agreement and the ongoing situation in Syria.

During a phone conversation, the two officials acknowledged the significant joint efforts of Egypt and Qatar over the past 15 months, culminating in the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, the Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement.

The two sides highlighted the importance of full and timely implementation of the agreement by all parties.

They also touched on the establishment of a central follow-up mechanism in Cairo to monitor the agreement's implementation.

Turning to Syria, the two officials reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Syrian people, with the Qatari prime minister briefing the Egyptian minister on his recent visit to Syria.

They emphasized the need for concerted regional and international efforts to restore stability in Syria, stressing the importance of a Syrian-led political process that includes all components of Syrian society, while simultaneously combating terrorism. Enditem
