RIGA, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Latvian Foreign Ministry released Friday a joint statement on behalf of Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania, voicing concern over the U.S. decision on AI export controls.

The three countries are concerned about the U.S. decision to exclude several countries from the Framework for the Artificial Intelligence Diffusion, a strategic policy tool aimed at regulating the international flow of AI technologies.

This decision risks creating divisions within the EU single market and undermining the growth of national AI ecosystems in the region, it said.

"We stand ready to work with the European Commission and the U.S. administration to address our concerns," it said.

The United States announced on Monday the restrictions on AI chip export to many countries. AI chip exports to some 120 other countries, including Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, will be restricted with quotas. Enditem
