TOKYO, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- A Cabinet Office survey has revealed that public concerns in Japan continue to focus on economic issues, with "prices" and "the economy" ranking highest among areas perceived to be moving in a negative direction.

Among the respondents, 71 percent pointed to "prices" when asked about areas moving in a negative direction, 51 percent to "the economy," and 47 percent to "national finances," maintaining last year's trend of economic concerns dominating the results.

Some 53 percent expressed satisfaction or partial satisfaction with society, a three-point increase from the previous year.

Meanwhile, concerns over "disaster preparedness" have tripled compared to the previous year.

The percentage citing "disaster preparedness" as moving in a negative direction rose sharply to 15 percent, up from 5 percent the previous year, reflecting growing public anxiety following a series of disasters, including the Noto Peninsula earthquake.

The survey, conducted via mail from October to November last year, targeted 3,000 people aged 18 and older nationwide, with a response rate of 59 percent. Enditem
