SIEM REAP, Cambodia, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- A Russian man and a Czech woman won the eighth Angkor Ultra Trail 100-km challenge at the UNESCO-listed Angkor Archaeological Park here in northwest Cambodia on Saturday.
Evgeny Bloshenko won the men's race after crossing the finish line in nine hours, 23 minutes and 36 seconds.
In the women's race, Alena Skrbkova won in a time of 14:51:34.
Thong Khon, a senior minister and president of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), attended the closing ceremony and awarded trophies to the winners.
Speaking at the event, Khon said the event aimed to promote sports development, preserve the heritage site's environment, and support tourism and humanitarian projects.
"It stands out as a unique sporting event where participants run through forests, rural landscapes, and villages, including the iconic ancient temples of Angkor Archaeological Park-a globally renowned cultural heritage site," he said.
He added the Angkor Ultra Trail 2025 attracted 1,720 athletes from 50 countries and regions, marking a 15 percent increase compared to the 2024 edition.
The event was classified as six types of races: the 100km ultra trail, 64km trail, 42km trail, 32km trail, 18km run, and 8km contest.
The 401-square-km Angkor complex, which currently stands as the most popular tourist attraction in Cambodia, is home to 91 ancient temples being built from the ninth to the 13th centuries. Enditem
