BAGHDAD, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani emphasized on Saturday his country's support for efforts to promote security and stability, and prevent the escalation of conflicts in the region.
Al-Sudani made the remarks during his meeting with Daniel Rubinstein, the U.S. charge d'affaires to Iraq, during which they discussed bilateral relations and the latest developments in the region, according to a statement by his media office.
The two sides explored ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation and advance the implementation of mutual agreements "in a manner that benefits both nations and fosters growth in their partnership across various fields," the statement said.
They also addressed the situation in Syria, and ongoing regional and international efforts to sustain the ceasefire in Gaza, the Palestinian territories, and southern Lebanon, the statement said.
During the meeting, Al-Sudani underscored the need for major powers and international organizations to play their role "in halting acts of genocide and highlighted the urgency of providing relief to the residents of Gaza and initiating reconstruction efforts following the ceasefire agreement," it said.
