MADRID, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona full-back Alejandro Balde said that he received racist insults during his side's 1-1 draw away to Getafe on Saturday night.
Balde made his announcement to Movistar TV after a tense affair that saw tensions rise after being taunted by Getafe player Isma after sending a cross out for a goal kick.
"I received various racist insults from some fans today, and I think that's something I should say here. I think it's something that should not keep happening," said the Spain international, who added that he had reported the insults to the referee.
Barca coach Hansi Flick said in his press conference that he was shocked by the insults and that he had never heard anything like them before.
"There's no place for this in football or in life, this is unbelievable, in these times, it's totally wrong," said Flick, who insisted all fans could help combat racism.
"I think we have to fight against [racism], it's the best thing, and the people around them can also do something. I think everyone can do it," he said.
Getafe coach Jose Bordalas gave his support to Balde and Flick. "I didn't know what happened, but I agree with Flick. I am against any racist comment or chant," he said.
There have been several cases of racist abuse in La Liga in recent seasons, with insults at Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr attracting most attention, although other players such as Athletic Bilbao's Williams brothers have also been the target of abuse. Enditem
