KABUL, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have discovered a large amount of weapons and ammunition in the eastern Ghazni province, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement on Sunday.

The contrabands, which included various types of weapons, a large quantity of cartridges and bullets and other illegally preserved military equipment, have been seized during operations in different districts of the province over the past nine months, the statement said.

The Afghan caretaker government has rounded up thousands of arms and a huge quantity of ammunition as part of efforts to stabilize the security situation across the war-ravaged country. Enditem
