3 dead, 7 missing in east India boat accident

NEW DELHI, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- At least three persons died and seven went missing when a boat carrying them capsized in India's eastern state of Bihar, confirmed a local police officer over the phone on Monday.

The incident occurred on Sunday in Bihar's Katihar district amid fast winds.

The boat was sailing through the Ganga River from Katihar district toward the neighboring state of Jharkhand.

Eight persons were rescued by the locals. There were around 18 people on board the ill-fated boat. Efforts were being made to look out for those who were still missing, said the officer. Enditem
