COLOMBO, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Close to 17,000 Sri Lankans have been affected by natural disasters caused by heavy rains by Monday morning, the country's Disaster Management Center (DMC) said.
A total of 16,930 individuals from 5,738 families have been affected in 11 districts, the DMC said. One death and three injuries too have been reported.
Meanwhile, thundershowers are likely to occur in the Northern, Eastern, North-Central, Uva and Central Provinces and in the Hambantota district on Monday, the Met Department said.
Landslide and flood warnings issued on Sunday, affecting multiple districts and provinces, remain in place for the next 24 hours, relevant officials said. Enditem
