ISLAMABAD, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's exports to Europe in the first five months of the current 2024-25 fiscal year increased by 8.62 percent as compared to the corresponding period of last year, according to officials from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The exports during July-November of FY 2025 were recorded at 3.8 billion dollars, said the PBS officials on Monday, adding that major sectors such as textiles, leather, garments, sports goods and surgical instruments drove the positive growth.

In October 2023, the European parliament approved the extension of the Generalized Scheme of Preferences (GSP) plus status for Pakistan until 2027, providing preferential market access and exemptions from duties on certain goods for developing countries.

Besides the country's GSP plus status, the government has been taking robust measures to enhance exports to various countries, said economic experts, adding the economic indicators have improved significantly with multiple initiatives including the establishment of the Special Investment Facilitation Council.
