TOKYO, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Japanese automakers are set to enhance collaboration in the competitive fields of electric vehicles (EVs) and automotive software, focusing on foundational technology development to maintain their global competitiveness.

The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) has outlined its "JAMA Vision 2035," which addresses the industry's challenges over the next decade.

In the EV sector, Japanese automakers plan to collaborate on developing next-generation charging technologies to reduce charging times. They will also work on standardizing semiconductor and battery specifications and designing recyclable batteries to support sustainability.

In the software domain, seen as a critical battleground for next-generation vehicles, the focus will be on unifying specifications for in-car operating systems and sharing data on advanced driver-assistance systems technology.

The report highlights the rapid advancements made by emerging Chinese manufacturers, which have significantly disrupted the competitive edge of Japanese companies, according to a report from the national broadcaster NHK.

The automotive industry is undergoing a once-in-a-century transformation, and many challenges can not be overcome by individual companies alone, the association noted, stressing that enhancing collaboration will be essential to bolster the competitiveness of Japanese automakers. Enditem
