PHNOM PENH, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's imports of diesel fuel, petroleum oil, and gas increased by 12 percent in 2024, according to a Ministry of Commerce report on Tuesday.

The value of diesel fuel, petroleum oil and gas imports totaled 2.69 billion U.S. dollars last year, up 12 percent from 2.4 billion dollars in the year before, the report said.

The Southeast Asian country spent 1.41 billion dollars on diesel fuel, 946 million dollars on petroleum oil, and 334 million dollars on petroleum gas in 2024, a year-on-year rise of 7 percent, 11 percent, and 42 percent, respectively, the report added.

Cambodia currently entirely relies on the imports of oil and gas as its seabed's oil reserves have not been exploited yet.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy has projected that the demand for oil products in Cambodia will reach 4.8 million tons in 2030, up from 2.8 million tons in 2020.

At petroleum stations on Tuesday, regular gasoline costs 4,050 riels (1.01 U.S. dollars) per liter, as diesel goes for 4,050 riels as well.

According to the Ministry of Commerce's report, the kingdom also imported all kinds of vehicles totally worth 1 billion dollars in 2024, up 11.6 percent year-on-year. Enditem
