YANGON, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar government has sent back a total of 55,711 people to their respective countries between Oct. 5, 2023, and Jan. 13, 2025, the state-run daily Myanma Alinn reported on Tuesday.

Investigations revealed that most foreigners who entered Myanmar illegally used neighboring countries as transit points for personal gain, the report added.

Although they were illegal migrants, the government conducted investigations in accordance with the law and returned them to their respective countries out of consideration for humanitarian reasons and international friendship, it said.

The report added that many of the illegal migrants were involved in online fraud and gambling in border areas.

The government, in cooperation with international organizations, has been actively exposing and taking action against illegal migrants involved in online scams and gambling. Regional organizations and citizens are also urged to cooperate in this regard, it added. Enditem
