DOHA, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Tuesday the successful facilitation of a detainee swap between the United States and Afghanistan.

The Gulf state facilitated the release of two American citizens detained in Afghanistan in exchange for an Afghan citizen detained in the United States, a statement quoted Minister of State at the ministry, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, as saying.

He stressed that all individuals involved in the exchange arrived safely in Doha, where Qatar facilitated the necessary arrangements for their return to their respective countries.

Al Khulaifi also expressed Qatar's gratitude to both the Afghan caretaker government and the U.S. government for their positive response and cooperation in the detainee swap process. Enditem
