SYDNEY, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Four people have been hospitalized after a car crashed into a house in Australia's state of Victoria early Wednesday, local media reported.

Victorian police said that the car hit a house in Hampton Park, 36 km southeast of central Melbourne, the capital city of Victoria, at about 4:30 a.m. local time.

The two occupants of the vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Two people inside the house at the time were not injured but were hospitalized for assessment.

Victoria Police said that the car flipped onto its roof following the impact.

State Emergency Service Commander Scott Bernard told Australian Broadcasting Corporation radio that the car had hit the corner of the house's lounge room.

He said that authorities at the scene were working to stabilize and secure the damaged area.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash. Enditem
