ISLAMABAD, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Friday that his country recognized the transformative power of education in preparing youth to thrive in the evolving technological landscape, calling education a beacon of hope for generations to come.

"The role education plays in empowering individuals and communities to navigate the rapid advancements of technology is profound. There is a need to ensure that progress in artificial intelligence (AI) complements our shared humanity," Sharif said in his message on the International Day of Education being observed Friday.

As AI-driven systems become increasingly integrated into people's lives, the prime minister said that the boundaries between human intervention and machine-driven actions continue to blur, which presents both opportunities and challenges.

"In Pakistan, the country aims to equip citizens with the tools to adapt to technological changes by fostering critical thinking, innovation, and ethical responsibility. We have taken significant steps and launched several initiatives to prepare our educational institutions to embrace technological advancements," he said.

Sharif said that schools across the country are being equipped with the latest technologies to prepare children with the requisite skills, adding Pakistan is committed to advancing an education system that embraces the promise of artificial intelligence while safeguarding the essence of human creativity, compassion, and purpose.
