LOS ANGELES, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Lionsgate's action thriller film "Flight Risk" took the top spot at the North American box office on its opening weekend with an estimated three-day cume of 12 million U.S. dollars, data from measurement firm Comscore showed on Sunday.

The Mel Gibson-helmed film, starring Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Dockery and Topher Grace, follows a pilot transporting an Air Marshal accompanying a fugitive to trial. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.

The film has earned a dismal approval rating of 21 percent based on 71 reviews to date on the review-aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, and a "C" on an "A+" to "F" scale from audiences polled by the market research firm CinemaScore.

Disney's photorealistic CGI-animated film "Mufasa: The Lion King" came in second with 8.7 million dollars on its sixth weekend. The film has grossed 221.1 million dollars in North America for a global cume of 626.7 million dollars through Sunday.

Sony Pictures' comedy film "One of Them Days" landed in third with 8 million dollars on its second weekend for a North American total of 25.1 million dollars. Enditem
