MANILA, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- A speeding car crashed into a 10-wheeler cargo truck in Iloilo City in the central Philippines early on Monday, killing its driver and critically injuring eight others, the police said.

The police said the accident, which occurred at around 5 a.m. local time in the city's Jaro District, killed the female driver and severely injured her eight passengers.

Police investigation showed the speeding car overtook a pickup truck before slamming into the truck, causing severe damage to the car hood and windshield.

The police said the victims, who were headed home after attending a revelry in the city when the crash occurred, were allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Enditem
