MOSCOW, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Russia has summoned the Moldovan ambassador to Moscow, following allegations made by a Moldovan political party against the Russian ambassador in Chisinau, the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement on Monday.

The foreign ministry said the Moldovan ambassador was summoned in protest over recent statements made by a Moldovan political party, which included baseless accusations against the Russian ambassador in Chisinau, and called for his expulsion and restrictions on the activities of the Russian embassy.

The statement demanded that the Moldovan side "publicly refute" the unfounded claims, and adhere to the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Another protest was lodged over Moldova's publication of a confidential note from the Russian embassy in Chisinau regarding gas supplies, the Russian foreign ministry said. Enditem
