UNITED NATIONS -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday talked over the phone with the presidents of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda to discuss the escalating conflict in the DRC, a UN spokesman said.

When asked about the content of the conversations, Stephane Dujarric, chief spokesman for the UN secretary-general, replied at a regular briefing, "The secretary-general obviously discussed the situation in the DRC, and he's been very clear both publicly and privately for the need for Rwanda to cease support to the M23 (March 23 Movement) and withdraw from the DRC." GAZA/CAIRO -- Hamas said on Tuesday that a delegation led by the head of its leadership council, Mohamed Darwish, has met with Egypt's intelligence chief, Hassan Mahmoud Rashad, in Cairo for discussion on the implementation of the ongoing Gaza ceasefire agreement.

In a statement, Hamas said the meeting addressed the developments in the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement, which was brokered by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States. (Egypt-Hamas-Gaza Ceasefire)

MOSCOW -- Any potential peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine should guarantee the long-term security of both countries, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday.

UNITED NATIONS -- The United Nations confirmed on Tuesday that it had received official notification from Washington of its withdrawal from the Paris climate change agreement.

"The United States notified the Secretary-General, in his capacity as depositary, of its withdrawal, on 27 January 2025, from the Paris Agreement of 12 December 2015," Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN chief Antonio Guterres, said at a daily briefing. (UN-Gaza) Enditem
