NEW DELHI -- At least 30 people were killed and 60 others injured during a stampede that took place early Wednesday at the ongoing mega Hindu festival, Maha Kumbh Mela, in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh, officials said.

The pre-dawn stampede was triggered after a barrier broke as tens of thousands of devotees thronged the Triveni Sangam on the occasion of taking a holy dip at Prayagraj, about 196 km south of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh. (India-Stampede-Deaths)

JUBA -- At least 20 people have been confirmed dead and one remains in critical condition following a plane crash in South Sudan.

The flight was transporting passengers from Unity State to Juba, the capital of South Sudan, with 21 people on board, Unity State Minister of Information and Communication Gatwech Bipal told Xinhua over the phone on Wednesday. (South Sudan-Plane crash)

KHOST, Afghanistan -- Unidentified armed men shot dead 10 civilians, all members of a same family in eastern Afghanistan's Khost province on Tuesday night, a spokesman for the provincial government Mustaghfar Garbaz said Wednesday.

The gruesome incident took place in Ali Shir district late Tuesday when unknown armed men entered a house and opened fire, killing 10 people including two men and eight women and children on the spot. (Afghanistan-Murders)

TOKYO -- A fire broke out in a residential building in Higashinari Ward of Japan's Osaka on Wednesday, leaving two dead and another one in critical condition, local media reported.
