BAMAKO, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- The Malian army said it has killed a local terrorist leader operating in central Mali and several other terrorists during operations across the country on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The terrorist leader, identified as Amadou Bolly, who operated in Kolongo, was shot dead along with several of his companions in an operation Tuesday in the areas of Niaro, Nossombougou, Maninie, N'djibala, Boky Were and Kononga, the army said in a statement Wednesday.
Bolly, who has been wanted for a long time, is responsible for several murders, extortions and abuses against the population, the statement said.
It said that "about 30 terrorists, including cadres and several fighters" were killed in Ghazaraghane, in northern Mali, in an operation by the Malian army and its counterparts from Burkina Faso and Niger, as part of the joint force of the Alliance of Sahel States.
Since 2012, Mali has been battling separatist rebellions, jihadists incursions and intercommunal violence that have left thousands dead and hundreds of thousands displaced. Enditem
