WARSAW, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the launch of the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm project at a press conference on Thursday, calling 2025 a pivotal year for Poland's economy, security, and competitiveness.

According to local media RMF24, Baltica 2 is set to become one of the world's largest offshore wind farms, with an estimated capacity of 1.5 gigawatts.

The project is a joint venture between Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) and Danish energy company Orsted, with operations expected to begin in 2027.

The total investment is estimated at 30 billion Polish zloty (7.43 billion U.S. dollars), with PGE contributing around 15 billion Polish zloty, including approximately 6 billion Polish zloty from the National Recovery Plan.

"By 2040, we are aiming for 18 gigawatts from wind energy. That would be equivalent to generating as much electricity from wind as four nuclear power plants - comparable to the two that we are planning in Poland," Tusk said, highlighting the country's commitment to expanding green energy investments.
