DAMASCUS -- Syria's newly appointed interim president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, outlined his administration's roadmap for the country's transition in his first address to the nation on Thursday, pledging to establish a legislative framework and a national dialogue on Syria's political future.

Speaking a day after his appointment, al-Sharaa announced the formation of a preparatory committee tasked with selecting a temporary legislative council, following the dissolution of the previous parliament. (Syria-President-Roadmap)

TUNIS -- Tunisian President Kais Saied announced on Thursday to extend the state of emergency imposed across the country till the end of 2025.

The state of emergency in the entire country "will be extended from Thursday to Dec. 31, 2025," said the Journal of the Republic of Tunisia, an official biweekly gazette. (Tunisia-State of Emergency)

KINSHASA -- The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) late Thursday rejected any dialogue with the March 23 Movement (M23) armed group, as the latter claimed earlier to be "open to direct dialogue."

"I have ordered that all plans and instructions concerning an alleged dialogue with M23 terrorists be completely burned immediately," said Guy Kabombo, defense minister of DRC, while addressing the armed forces. (DRC-Rejecting Dialogue-M23)

KAMPALA -- The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Thursday that it has deployed an emergency medical team to help Uganda fight a deadly Ebola outbreak that killed a health worker in Kampala, the Ugandan capital.
