VLADIVOSTOK, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Russian security forces have dismantled a major drug laboratory in the Amur region, seizing over 600 kilograms of marijuana and other narcotics, local media reported on Friday.
The operation targeted an inter-regional criminal group involved in large-scale drug production and distribution.
"The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia in the Amur region has disrupted the illegal activities of a criminal group responsible for organizing a drug trafficking network and operating a laboratory for drug production," FSB was quoted by TASS news agency as saying.
During the raid, authorities confiscated over six million individual doses of drugs worth more than 25 million rubles (about 250,000 U.S. dollars) and equipment used in drug manufacturing.
Two suspects have been detained and criminal proceedings have been initiated under Russia's Penal Code for attempted large-scale drug trafficking. If convicted, they could face life imprisonment. (1 Russian ruble equals 0.01 U.S. dollar) Enditem
