KABUL, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Poppy cultivation and drug production have been banned in Afghanistan and are now nearly at zero, spokesman of the caretaker government Zabihullah Mujahid said.
Mujahid made the remarks in response to concerns from some countries regarding drug production and trafficking in post-war Afghanistan.
Addressing the concerns, Mujahid said that drug smuggling was a problem of the past in Afghanistan, and the caretaker government would spare no efforts to make the country a drug-free nation.
The Afghan caretaker government implemented a ban on poppy cultivation, drug processing, and trafficking in April 2022. Since then, it has been actively working to eliminate the drug menace in a country once known for its poppy production. Enditem
