ISLAMABAD, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the country continued its all-out efforts to fight polio as the number of new cases reported has seen a decline in recent months.

Since September 2024, the downward trend in polio cases is evidence of the effectiveness of the anti-polio campaign as the country is determined to eradicate polio by vigorous polio drives and timely identification of polio cases, Sharif said during a meeting here on Thursday.

He said that the decrease in polio cases in all provinces was made possible due to efforts of provincial administrations and cooperation among stakeholders, including polio workers and security personnel, adding that the anti-polio campaign is continuing in the provinces with great momentum.

"All aspects of the polio campaign are being continuously monitored with an information technology dashboard," the prime minister said.

Pakistan has reported a total of 73 cases of wild poliovirus type 1 in 2024 and one case in 2025 so far, according to the National Institute of Health. Enditem
