ITTF announces qualification pathway to Singles World Cup in Macao

BEIJING, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) on Sunday announced the qualification route, including five Continental Cups later this month, for the 2025 ITTF Singles World Cup, which will be held in Macao, China in April.

Each Continental Cup will see four players qualify for the World Cup through their semifinal finishes. These tournaments are the ITTF-Oceania Cup in Melbourne, Australia from February 15-16, the Pan American Cup in San Francisco, United States from February 18-23, the Asian Cup in Shenzhen, China from February 19-23, the Europe Top 16 Cup in Montreux, Switzerland from February 20-23, and the African Cup in Tunis from February 25-27.

With four spots available at each continental event, a total of 20 players will secure their places for the World Cup.

Meanwhile, the ITTF announced that qualification for the ITTF Singles World Cup comprises: automatic qualification for the current world champions; automatic qualification for the current U19 world champions; 20 players qualify through the Continental Cups; 24 players qualify via the world rankings; if no players qualify from the host association under the above criteria, then up to two host association players shall be nominated by that association; if a host association player already qualify through the above criteria, then up to two additional players shall be added based on the world rankings.

There shall not be more than four players from an association, except an association with players qualified as world champions may compete with up to six players, the ITTF added.

The ITTF Singles World Cup will take place from April 14 to 20. Enditem
