SINGAPORE, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Two 29-year-old Singaporeans have been arrested for allegedly evading taxes amounting to 457,968 Singapore dollars (about 334,317 U.S. dollars), Singapore Customs said in a statement on Monday.

The man and woman were detained on Jan. 23 during a customs operation at Petir Road in northwest Singapore. Authorities seized 4,228 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes and two vans. Drug paraphernalia found in one of the vehicles was referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau for further investigation.

Investigations revealed that the man was allegedly responsible for delivering the duty-unpaid cigarettes. Court proceedings are ongoing against him, while investigations into the woman are still underway. (1 Singapore dollar equals 0.73 U.S. dollars) Enditem
