MEXICO CITY, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Sergio Ramos is close to joining Monterrey on a free transfer, according to widespread media reports in Mexico.
The 38-year-old center-back underwent a medical examination in Madrid under the observation of Monterrey staff on Monday, newspaper El Universal reported.
It said that Ramos' representatives and Monterrey officials were finalizing contractual terms, adding that an official announcement confirming the move was "imminent".
Ramos has been without a club since parting ways with Sevilla last June. His distinguished 22-year professional career has included four Champions League trophies with Real Madrid and a World Cup title with Spain.
Monterrey are prioritizing the signing of a center-back after Carlos Salcedo suffered a serious knee injury in his first training session with the club last month. Enditem
