Pakistan pledges commitment to global cancer fight

ISLAMABAD, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the country's commitment to global efforts in the fight against cancer as Pakistan marked World Cancer Day on Tuesday.

The president said that the day serves as a reminder of the immense challenges posed by the disease and an opportunity to inspire hope through collective action, innovation, and resilience, the President's Office said in a statement.

"By raising awareness and strengthening our healthcare response, we can collectively combat cancer and reduce its impact on our communities," the president said.

Meanwhile, the prime minister highlighted the government's focus on enhancing cancer care infrastructure, investing in research, and ensuring access to affordable and high-quality treatment for all citizens, the Prime Minister's office said in a statement.

He added that Pakistan continues to work in partnership with healthcare professionals, researchers, and international organizations to enhance its capacity for cancer prevention and treatment.

World Cancer Day is observed annually to raise awareness and encourage action in the global fight against cancer. Enditem
