TOKYO, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Japan Tourism Agency will introduce a program in fiscal 2025 to help municipalities and businesses attract digital nomads, remote workers who use digital technology to work from anywhere in the world, local media reported.

As part of the initiative, the agency will provide subsidies to partially cover expenses related to setting up workplaces and accommodations tailored to digital nomads, according to Jiji Press.

The subsidies will support the development of 24-hour shared offices, coworking-friendly cafes and bars, and accommodations equipped with work-friendly facilities.

The goal is to encourage longer stays and increase spending by foreign remote workers compared to traditional tourists, the report noted.

In fiscal 2024, the agency carried out model projects in five regions to explore ways to attract digital nomads. Based on the trials, it will establish guidelines for other regions interested in similar initiatives. Enditem
